The rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) sedated the Nubian giraffe on Wednesday during its translocation from Murchison Falls National Park to Ajai Wildlife Reserve near Arua, northwestern Uganda.It was seen with its eyes covered by a cloth and restrained by ropes during its translocation.Moving giraffes is a significantly challenging task due to their unique height and physiology. Once sedated, each giraffe was gently lowered to the ground, with its eyes and ears carefully covered, and was constantly monitored by veterinarians before being loaded onto specially designed transport trucks.The operation, led by Dr Patrick Atimnedi, UWA's assistant commissioner in charge of veterinary services, is expected to see a total of 12 Nubian giraffes translocated to Ajai Wildlife Reserve.He said: 'We want to expand the range of these critically endangered Nubian giraffes as well as diversify the species in Ajai wildlife reserve.'
