Dezeen Showroom: this collection of surfaces by US brand PoliLam aims to capture the characteristics of various species of wood from forests around the world. All 12 of the patterns in the Nature's Capsule surface collection are the result of on-site sourcing processes carried out by PoliLam. The surfaces are decorated with grain patterns observed directly from the source This involved travel to woodlands around the globe to document wood patterns, tones and textures directly from nature, before being reconstructed using custom embossing plates and colour separation techniques. Walnut from Missouri, Australian karri – also known as eucalyptus – and German oak are among the timbers that were observed and developed. Each pattern carries a distinct regional personality and tone, according to PoliLam. The surface patterns are predictable and repeatable across expansive applications The collection is available across all compatible PoliLam specialty surface solutions – including HPL and Compact – providing versatile and powerful alternatives to veneer. These surfaces offer the practical advantages of laminates, including fire resistance, wear resistance and easy maintenance, and benefit from uniform grain patterns rather than the unpredictability of natural timber.
