As many as 30,577 cases were settled in SPSR Nellore district during the third National Lok Adalat on Saturday. The district ranked fourth in the number of cases disposed of in Andhra Pradesh, following Krishna, Kadapa and Kurnool districts.Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Principal District Judge A. Narasimha Murthy announced that 10 benches have been set up at the Nellore court complex and a total of 24 benches across the entire district for the National Lok Adalat.“So far, approximately ₹3 crore has been collected in relation to municipal cases dating back to 2009. During this Lok Adalat, a total of about 30,419 criminal cases, 158 civil cases and 64 public litigation cases (PLCs) have been resolved across the district,” he said.Mr. Narasimha Murthy further said that the National Lok Adalat was a legal dispute resolution forum organised under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It enables parties to resolve disputes regarding civil and compoundable criminal matters through mutual agreement rather than through adversarial proceedings.Settlements reached in Lok Adalats hold the status of a civil court decree and are binding on the parties involved. Since the outcome is based on mutual agreement, the process focuses on conciliation rather than adversarial litigation.Lok Adalats offer the public an opportunity for speedy justice while saving on court costs and valuable time. Furthermore, there is no provision for appeal against a Lok Adalat verdict, ensuring a permanent resolution to disputes. Published - September 12, 2026 08:17 pm IST
