National Awards: Article 370 wins Best film, Rajkumar Periasamy is Best Director

Article 370 emerged as the biggest winner at the 72nd National Film Awards, taking home the Best Feature Film honour, while filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy won the Best Director award for his Tamil biographical war drama Amaran.The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced on Saturday, recognising excellence in Indian cinema across languages and genres.Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale and produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Article 370 was honoured with the top award for Best Feature Film. Starring Yami Gautam in the lead role, the political thriller is set against the backdrop of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and follows the story of an intelligence officer on a high-stakes mission. Yami won Best Actress for performance in the film.Meanwhile, Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for Amaran. The Tamil film, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, is based on the life of Ashok Chakra awardee Major Mukund Varadarajan and received widespread acclaim for its storytelling, performances and emotional depth.The National Film Awards are among India's most prestigious honours in cinema, presented annually by the Government of India to recognise outstanding achievements in filmmaking.
