Narbonne (Calif.) football 2027-28 postseason ban appeal denied

Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne High School appealed a two-year sanction stemming from last year having to vacate its 2024 championship and currently serving a three-year playoff ban due to recruiting violations. The Gauchos on Thursday, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times, heard the verdict on whether the ban would be waived or upheld. The school’s new administration was hoping to have the punishment reduced as they entered the 2026 campaign. Last season Narbonne finished with a 0-9 record and headed into this new season as the state’s No. 591st ranked team, according to the California High School Football Massey Rankings. The City Section Executive Committee has voted 6-4 to deny an appeal by Narbonne to reduce its three-year football playoff ban. It’s year 2 and the committee appears reluctant to change its punishment after only one year of a new principal, new athletic director, new coach.— eric sondheimer (@latsondheimer) September 10, 2026 Back in the spring of 2025, the CIF City Section had determined that Narbonne “violated CIF bylaw 202 (Accurate information) and CIF bylaw 510 (Undue influence, pre-enrollment contact) during the 2024 California high school football season.” The findings were then a result of the joint investigation by the school district and the CIF, California high school football’s governing body. What was discovered through the City Section investigation back in ’24 revealed that multiple families used similar addresses and bills to prove their residency, with seven players becoming ineligible. Meanwhile, multiple families had declared themselves homeless in the Student Housing Questionnaire. Narbonne has started this season with a 1-2 record, last week with the Gauchos defeating Fairfax Senior, 28-18. This week Narbonne will be taking on Hawthorne (1-2) at home.
