Nanrobot LS7+ review: This 70 mph electric scooter is absolutely insane

There are electric scooters, there are fast electric scooters, and then there are machines like the Nanrobot LS7+ that make you wonder whether we’ve stretched the definition of “scooter” about as far as it can possibly go. The LS7+ is an absolute monster. It packs a pair of 3,000W motors for 6,000W of nominal power, with Nanrobot claiming up to 10,000W of peak power. The company advertises a top speed of 74.5 mph (120 km/h), though Nanrobot itself notes that figure was achieved under optimal testing conditions and says typical riding speeds are closer to 58-65 mph (93-105 km/h). And no, I didn’t take it all the way up to 74.5 mph. I like you guys, but not that much. I also like my skin in all of its current places very much, thank you. I’m not opposed to going fast, but I choose my risks carefully. I’ve watched the speedometer tick into triple digits on electric motorcycles, but there’s something about hitting those speeds in the same position I ride an escalator that just gives me the heebie-jeebies. Once I hit the 40s of mph (above 65 km/h) in a standing position on wheels the size of a salad plate, I start to nope out. So don’t expect this to be a top speed review like on my last Nanrobot testing, but in every other sense, I was there. Lots and lots of power The LS7+’s dual motors provide the kind of acceleration you’d expect from a combined 6,000W setup, which is to say: tons. The thing wants to go like a bat out of hell. And all of that power and torque available at the curl of an index finger means there’s plenty of oomph available for climbing hills too, not just simply rocketing away from a stop. That’s also why I want to make one thing abundantly clear: This is not a beginner scooter. Not in the slightest. If your scooter experience consists of cruising around on rental scooters or commuting on a typical 20-25 mph model, the LS7+ is a massive step up. This is the kind of scooter that should be reserved for experienced riders who already understand how powerful scooters handle, how quickly things happen at higher speeds, and how important proper protective gear becomes when you start pushing these performance levels. Fortunately, Nanrobot has equipped the LS7+ with hardware that at least acknowledges what kind of performance we’re dealing with here. There’s a steering damper to help maintain stability and reduce the possibility of speed wobbles, which is something I definitely appreciate on a scooter capable of these speeds. You also get adjustable KKE hydraulic suspension and four-piston NUTT hydraulic brakes. The scooter rides on 11-inch tires, with both street and off-road versions available. The suspension gives it a substantial, planted feel, and overall the scooter feels well-built and appropriately beefy for the performance it offers. Of course, “beefy” also means heavy. The LS7+ weighs around 119 lb (54 kg), so forget casually tossing this thing over your shoulder and carrying it up three flights of stairs. This is much closer to small electric motorcycle territory than your average last-mile commuter scooter. Nanrobot also rates the LS7+ for a 30-degree climbing angle and a maximum load of 330 lb (150 kg). I barely approach half that with all my gear on, so I can’t speak for riders on the higher end of that range, but if they build it for climbing huge hills with a lot of weight, then you can imagine how it flew with me on it! A seriously big battery Feeding those motors is a 72V and 35Ah Samsung battery, giving us a hefty 2.52 kWh of capacity. Nanrobot claims up to 81 miles (130 km) of range, though that figure is based on relatively gentle riding at 25 km/h (15.5 mph) with a 75 kg (165 lb) rider. Start regularly tapping into those dual motors at higher speeds and you’re obviously going to get considerably less range. But that’s exactly why I’m glad to see such a large battery here. High-performance riding consumes energy quickly, and having more than 2.5 kWh onboard means you can actually enjoy the scooter’s performance without watching the battery gauge plummet quite as quickly as it would with a smaller pack. That big battery is certainly part of what helps float the price all the way up to $2,299, though the dual motors, big suspension, and rest of the robust build all add to that figure, too. Probably more scooter than you need After riding the Nanrobot LS7+, my biggest takeaway is that it’s actually a pretty good scooter. It feels solid, the suspension is capable, the hydraulic brakes match the performance level much better than mechanical brakes would, the steering damper is a welcome inclusion, and there’s enough battery here to make the ridiculous power somewhat usable. Sure, I can’t stand the annoying NFC card for unlocking feature, but that’s long been a pet peeve of mine, despite others enjoying the added security benefit. Suffice it to say though, that in terms of build quality, the scooter checks all the boxes. But it is also completely, hilariously excessive for most riders. Most people simply don’t need a scooter capable of somewhere around 60-70+ mph. In fact, depending on where you live, a scooter this powerful and fast may not be street legal at all. Riders should check their local regulations before assuming they can simply blast down public roads at highway speeds. For riders who have private property or appropriate off-road riding areas, the optional knobby tires could make even more sense. With dual motors, adjustable hydraulic suspension, plenty of ground clearance, and that enormous battery, there’s a compelling argument for treating the LS7+ as an extreme off-road recreational machine rather than trying to shoehorn it into the role of a normal commuter scooter. That’s ultimately how I’d look at the Nanrobot LS7+. It’s not the scooter I’d recommend to someone looking for their first commuter. It’s not even the scooter I’d recommend to most experienced commuters. Really, it’s for the craziest out there that want something so powerful and fast that it’s barely a scooter anymore. So if you’ve already ridden powerful scooters, understand exactly what you’re getting into, and want something truly extreme, the LS7+ certainly delivers.
