Nana Patekar refused Rohit Shetty's Golmaal fee, asked him to donate it

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty paid an emotional tribute to actor Nana Patekar following his death at the age of 75. Remembering their close bond, Rohit spoke about their late-night conversations, Nana's unfiltered opinions on his films and the generosity he showed while working on Golmaal Again.Sharing a picture of Nana on Instagram, Rohit addressed the actor as "Dada" and recalled how their conversations would begin without any formalities. Nana would simply call him "Shetty" and ask what he was doing."Dear Dada, I will miss your late-night calls. No hello and no formalities but a straight, 'Aye Shetty, kya kar raha hai (Hey, Shetty, what are you doing)?'" Rohit wrote. The filmmaker added that he would deliberately pretend not to recognise the caller, just to annoy Nana and hear his familiar response. "And I would purposely reply 'Kaun bol raha hai (Who is speaking)?', to irritate you only to get a 'Saale, Nana bol raha hoon (This is nana speaking)!'" he recalled.Rohit also remembered Nana as one of his most honest critics. According to the filmmaker, the actor never hesitated to share his opinion about his films and would praise or criticise them without sugar-coating his words. "After my release, you were one of my biggest and most honest critics. You never sugar-coated anything," Rohit wrote. He then recalled some of the comments Nana would make about his films, including, "Yeh waali tune achhi banayi (This is one you made good)", "Yeh waali mujhe achhi nahi lagi (This one I did not like)", "Yeh waali superhit hai (This one's a superhit)" and "Yeh tune hit banane ki koshish ki hai (This one, you have tries to make a hit)."Rohit said Nana would also remind him that he did not need to rely on a large number of stars to make a successful film."And then, in your own way, you would remind me, 'Abay, tu khud star hai tujhe itne stars ki zaroorat nahi hai (You’re a star yourself; you don’t need so many stars).'" he wrote.Rohit Shetty recalls Nana Patekar's generous gesture One of the memories Rohit said he would never forget was Nana's cameo in his 2017 comedy Golmaal Again. When Rohit asked the actor about his fee for the appearance, Nana refused to take any money."I will never forget when you did a cameo in Golmaal Again. I asked you, 'Dada, aapki fees?'. And you looked at me and said, 'Ch****ya, tujhse paise lunga? Ek anathashram ka number deta hoon, wahan donate kar de(Why would I take money from you? I’ll give you the number of an orphanage—donate it there instead),'" Rohit recalled.Remembering the gesture, Rohit described Nana as someone who was straightforward, unfiltered, generous and genuine.Concluding his tribute, Rohit said he would particularly miss the way Nana addressed him. "I will miss being called Shetty by you. WILL MISS YOU DADA (red heart emoji)."Nana Patekar died at his Goa home after suffering chest pain in the early hours of Thursday. He was 75.
