For a law student, the name of the college can often shape the first few years of a legal career. At NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, that reputation is backed not just by rankings, but by a placement record that has remained remarkably consistent.NALSAR reported 100% placement among graduates who opted for the placement process in each of the four years from 2020 to 2023. Its latest detailed figures for 2024 show the same trend: all 86 students from the BA LLB (Hons.) batch who participated in placements were placed. Another 22 students chose to join practice. For the 2026 graduating batch, the question is therefore less about whether NALSAR has a placement ecosystem and more about whether it can maintain the momentum built over the past five years. The campus (Photo: Official website/NALSAR) FIVE YEARS OF PLACEMENTS SHOW A STRONG PIPELINENALSAR's placement numbers tell a story of consistency. In 2020, the university reported that all graduates who opted for placements were placed, with national and international law firms, corporates, PSUs and government agencies participating in recruitment. The university reported the same 100% placement figure for students opting for placements in 2021, 2022 and 2023.The 2024 batch provides a clearer picture of where these students are heading. Out of 115 graduating BA LLB (Hons.) students, 86 participated in the placement process and all 86 were placed. Thirty-six students received pre-placement offers, while 50 were recruited through campus placements. The highest package was Rs 59 lakh per annum, while the median salary stood at Rs 17.50 lakh. 54 students accepted offers with Indian law firms, three joined government undertakings, three accepted international law-firm training contracts and three opted for litigation chamber practice. Two students also received vacation schemes and training contracts from Linklaters, while another received one from Herbert Smith Freehills. The recruiter list included some of the biggest names in the legal and corporate sectors: Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, AZB & Partners, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co, IndusLaw, Deloitte, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Tata Advanced Systems, Jio Financial Services, IDBI Bank, NSE and ONGC Videsh. This also shows that an NALSAR law degree does not lead students down one fixed path. Some enter India's leading law firms, some move into corporate legal roles, while others choose litigation, government or further studies. Academic Block (Photo: Official website/NALSAR) WHAT DOES NALSAR OFFER LAW STUDENTS?At the centre of this ecosystem is the university's flagship five-year BA LLB (Hons.) programme. The course is designed to go beyond conventional legal education. Students study law alongside disciplines such as Economics, English, History, Political Science and Sociology, before progressing through core areas of legal study. The programme also includes electives, seminars and clinical courses.NALSAR also offers a one-year LLM, along with specialised postgraduate programmes and diplomas in areas including taxation and business laws, aviation law, space and telecommunications law, patents, cyber law, media law, international humanitarian law and alternative dispute resolution. For undergraduate aspirants, however, the BA LLB remains the biggest draw.Admission is through CLAT, and the competition is intense. For the 2026-31 batch, NALSAR has 132 BA LLB seats, including 99 all India seats and 33 seats for Telangana residents, subject to applicable reservations. That limited intake, combined with NALSAR's position among India's leading law schools, makes it a difficult institution to enter. It is not enough to simply meet the Class 12 eligibility requirement; candidates need a strong CLAT performance to secure a seat. The library at NALSAR (Photo: Official Website/NALSAR) THE ALUMNI NETWORK IS PART OF THE ATTRACTIONA law school's reputation is also built by the careers of its graduates, and NALSAR's alumni have moved into prominent positions across litigation, corporate law, academia and public service.Among its notable alumni is K Parameshwar, from the 2002-07 batch, who was designated a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court. NALSAR's 2024 annual report also highlights Raghavendra P Shankar, a Rhodes Scholar and NALSAR alumnus who was appointed Additional Solicitor General at the Supreme Court.Another prominent alumnus is Talha Abdul Rahman, from the 2008 batch, who is an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court and has practised in litigation across the High Courts and Supreme Court. The alumni network also extends into policy and public-interest law. NALSAR lists alumnus Alok Prasanna Kumar, co-founder of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, among its alumni voices, while its 2024 report records the rise of alumni such as Navomi Koshy, who became a partner at Saraf & Partners, and Archit Bhatnagar, who became a partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. The campus (Photo: Official website/NALSAR) ONE OF INDIA'S TOP LAW SCHOOLS?The numbers and alumni record are reflected in NALSAR's national standing. In the NIRF 2025 Law rankings, NALSAR was placed third in India, behind National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, and National Law University, Delhi. It also held the third position in the 2024 ranking. Its academic environment is also closely connected to legal practice. NALSAR hosts prominent constitutional law discussions, moot court competitions and practitioner-led programmes. Its flagship Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition is described by the university as one of India's premier constitutional law moots. That combination, competitive admission, interdisciplinary legal education, strong alumni and access to leading recruiters, explains why NALSAR continues to be viewed as one of India's elite law schools. But perhaps the more telling number is the diversity of opportunities, from top-tier law firms and international training contracts to banks, corporates, government undertakings and litigation. The 2026 placement season will ultimately determine whether NALSAR can repeat that performance. For now, its track record suggests that students are entering the recruitment cycle with more than just a prestigious law degree. They are entering with a five-year placement record, an established recruiter network and an alumni base that has made its mark across India's legal profession.- EndsPublished By: Princy ShuklaPublished On: Aug 14, 2026 11:34 IST
