Nagababu takes charge as Andhra Pradesh Green Executive Committee chairman

Jana Sena Party MLC Konidela Nagababu being felicitated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu after assuming charge as chairman of the AP Green Executive Committee, at the CM’s Camp Office on Friday. The Jana Sena Party (JSP) MLC Konidela Nagababu on Friday assumed charge as chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Green Executive Committee and said the State would work towards increasing its overall green cover to 50% of its geographical area by 2047.After assuming charge at Aranya Bhavan in Mangalagiri, Mr. Nagababu said the present forest cover in Andhra Pradesh stood at 22.96% and stressed the need to expand both forest and tree cover to achieve the 50% target. He said the initiative would not be confined to forests and that efforts would be made to increase green cover on agricultural lands, in villages and urban areas, along roads and canal bunds, on government and private institutional premises, in industrial areas and on suitable wastelands. Large-scale plantations and development of gardens would also be encouraged.Mr. Nagababu said achieving the target would require coordination among the Agriculture, Horticulture, Panchayat Raj, Education, Industries, Revenue, Water Resources, Transport and Forest Departments. He said the AP Green programme would be developed as a people’s movement by involving farmers, voluntary organisations, corporate social responsibility groups, students, youth, industrialists and citizens.“Planting trees alone is not our objective. Ensuring their survival, protection and healthy growth is the real responsibility,” he said. A special monitoring mechanism would be established to track the survival and maintenance of the trees planted, he added.Mr. Nagababu thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for entrusting him with the responsibility.Later, Mr. Nagababu, accompanied by his wife, called on Mr. Naidu at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
