MYSTERY surrounds the disappearance of a soldier, with cops probing a “car ramming” and a disturbance at a house the night he vanished. Two men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested in connection to the crash and have been bailed. The force describes Liam as a white man, 6ft 3ins tall, of medium build with dark hair and tattoos down his right arm. Liam was last seen wearing black joggers, black Nike trainers and a black T-shirt with white text and a diamond logo on the back, and a gold chain, as police released a CCTV image. His family are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare, said Northumbria Police. Liam is a soldier, serving with the Coldstream Guards, and his unit is currently on leave. He completed his training at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, and also played a role in the funeral procession of Queen Elizabeth in 2022. Mountain rescue and cops have been scouring the river since Saturday. Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Robson said: “Our searches for Liam continue but due to a range of factors, we are unable to provide a timescale for how long we will be searching in the area. “We will continue to support his family, and we would ask the public to avoid speculation both online and in the community. “We would like to thank our colleagues from North of Tyne Mountain and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue teams for their continued support and all those who have helped with the searches so far.” A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Police are searching the River Tyne after receiving a report of a missing man from Northumberland. “Officers received a report on Saturday afternoon (August 15) concerning the welfare of Liam, who had last been seen at about 12:20am that day after spending the night with friends. “He was last seen heading towards Wylam from Wylam Bridge. “Efforts to locate the 22-year-old have been ongoing since including searches of the River Tyne in the Wylam area. “At this stage, it is believed that Liam has entered the water. They added: “Prior to Liam’s last known sighting, officers received a report of a disturbance at a nearby premises and a subsequent collision on Wylam Bridge involving a vehicle and a group of pedestrians. “A man and woman – each aged in their 20s – both sustained serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. “Two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival but two men aged 22 and 23 have since been arrested in connection with the report. “They have both been bailed pending further enquiries. “Whilst enquiries are at an early stage, we can confirm Liam was on the bridge at the time of the collision. “However, he was not an occupant of the vehicle and there are no reports suggesting that he was injured in the collision. “He subsequently left the scene and enquiries are ongoing to locate him.” Anyone with information related to Liam’s disappearance is urged to contact police.
