My son, 12, was IMPALED on door handle during game of tag – seeing it inside his arm made me sick

A SCHOOLBOY became impaled on a door handle after a game of tag went horribly wrong. Ollie Davey, 12, had been at a friend’s house in Cwmbran, south Wales, when a door handle became stuck under the skin on his left arm for an hour. The 35-year-old hairdresser assumed her son was asking for a lift or wanted some money, but soon found out that an ambulance was racing over to the friend’s house following the traumatic accident. She rushed over to the house and found paramedics and firefighters trying to work out how to free the lad safely. Gruesome images show how the metal door handle pierced Ollie’s skin, with the outline of the object clearly visible. Natalie said: “He sent me a photo and I could see his arm was actually stuck on the door handle. “He was grey and sweaty when I got there, I think he was in shock. He was in pain [but] he wasn’t crying. He was really brave.” Most read in The Sun Natalie Davey, Ollie’s mum, initially thought he was being dramatic Credit: Kennedy News Emergency crews had to sedate Ollie to free him Credit: Kennedy News After being stuck for an hour, emergency crews decided to call an air ambulance so medics could sedate Ollie to make sure he didn’t feel any pain when they removed the door handle from his skin. “When they sedated him and when he had gone to sleep, they managed to take him off the door handle, just by pulling him out. I couldn’t look,” said Natalie. There were initial concerns that Ollie had sustained severe tendon damage. But the kid was taken to The Grange University Hospital where doctors were pleased to see that he only needed minor surgery to clean and stitch up the wound. After having a bit of weakness in his arm, Ollie has since recovered and is back to his usual self. Brave Ollie said that he was in a bit of pain during the horrifying ordeal but was more worried about the state of his arm. Natalie said that his friends were “amazing” and helped look after him. She added: “He gets a bit sore around the wound but he’s back to being his normal self and on his bike and playing football.” Thankful the accident didn’t result in more serious injuries, Natalie is now sharing Ollie’s story to highlight the potential dangers of playing indoors. Natalie said: “I thought maybe he would damage his bones or have more serious injuries, he was really lucky. “It’s the running and the doors. You don’t think it’s going to happen, but it can happen to anyone really.” Comment now
