For black-and-yellow taxis, the per-kilometre rate has been raised from Rs 20.66 to Rs 21.90.For taxis, the revised minimum fare of Rs 33 will apply to the first 1.5 km, up from Rs 31 previously. The fare revision was cleared by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) at a recent meeting, chaired by the Maharashtra transport secretary.Drivers have been allowed to implement the new rates either by getting their electronic meters recalibrated or by displaying an RTO-approved fare chart. Although the higher fares take effect from September 1, drivers have been given until the end of November to complete meter recalibration. Those who fail to do so within the deadline could face penalties, an RTO official said.The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has more than 4.5 lakh auto-rickshaws and over 50,000 black-and-yellow taxis, most of which operate on compressed natural gas (CNG).The latest revision comes 18 months after the previous fare increase.
