Mumbai Metro's resident ginger cat gets a job title after months of 'patrolling'

A ginger cat that patrols Gundavali Metro station in Mumbai has been given the honorary title of Chief Feline Officer by MMMOCL. A ginger cat that routinely patrols the entrance of Gundavali station on Mumbai Metro’s Line 7 (Red Line) has now been given an honorary designation by the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL): Chief Feline Officer (CFO).The appointment came after commuter Sandesh Samant photographed the cat and messaged MMMOCL, jokingly asking the metro operator to give its unpaid station guardian an official designation.MMMOCL played along. The feline’s unofficial job description includes inspecting the station and keeping an eye on commuters. Often found perched near the entrance, the cat’s unusually calm, Buddha-like demeanour has also become a quiet source of comfort for tired passengers. An MMMOCL official confirmed that the title was created in jest, but said the cat appears to take its responsibilities seriously.“Yes, we did it in jest, but it is always on the job,” the official said, adding that cats, dogs and even monkeys sometimes seek shelter in the cool stairwells of the metro network.
