Mum, 21, and son, 5, killed alongside boyfriend as landslide buries their home as they slept during horror storm

A YOUNG boy, his mum and her boyfriend have been killed after a devastating landslide decimated their home while they slept. Vinicius Lima, 5, Jaqueline Lima, 21, and her partner Kauan da Silva, 21, were found buried deep under mounds of mud and debris after a horror storm struck southern Brazil. A fleet of emergency services – including 10 firefighters – were dispatched to the scene at the Ronda neighbourhood of Ponta Grossa. Firefighters said the landslide struck the house at around 8.44am, bringing down a wall and part of the roof. Sadly, all three victims were pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to revive them. The disaster came as severe storms hit Paraná, causing flooding and flash floods across several municipalities. Weather authorities also confirmed two tornadoes in the state within around 24 hours, one near Francisco Alves and another in the community of Boa Vista, in Espigao Alto do Iguacu. The tragedy unfolded as the country prepares for the brunt of El Niño, with forecasts warning of torrential rains and severe flooding in the months ahead. Heavy rain poses huge risks to Brazil’s built-up cities, where urban surfaces prevent water from draining away. Earlier this year at least 59 people were killed in catastrophic flooding in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state. Homes were swallowed by raging waters and more than 230 people had to be rescued from the swell. It follows a pattern of extreme weather events driven by El Niño, which has caused widespread devastation across large parts of Asia. Last month, thousands of people died in flash flood in Nepal when a torrent of flood water, mud and debris swept along the Tibetan border. The disaster occurred when a glacier collapsed on August 26 after which At least 1,380 bodies have so far been pulled from the wreckage. The Nepalese government ordered DNA samples to be taken from all the bodies which have not been identified or claimed by loved ones. Comment now
