Mum, 18, arrested after abandoning her baby boy with stranger who gushed over him at bus stop before fleeing in Uber

A TEEN mum has been arrested after ditching her baby with a stranger at a bus stop before fleeing in a Uber, cops say. Karla Ibarra, 18, left her one-month-old baby at a bus shelter after deciding she no longer wanted the child, San Antonio police said. Jennifer began gushing over the infant, but the mood suddenly shifted when the teenage mother began frantically handed over all her son’s federal ID documents. Jennifer told KSAT 12: “She begins handing me his birth certificate, his Medicaid, his Social Security card. “She’s like, ‘well, do you want him? I’m going to give him away, I’m going to give him to somebody’.” In a bid to help the teen, Jennifer offered to take her and her son to a friend’s house nearby who she thought would be able to help. But before they could get here, Ibarra fled in an Uber, leaving her son with Jennifer. After feeding and changing the baby, Jennifer and her friend called San Antonio police for help. Most read in The Sun Ibarra was arrested when she returned to the area later. The child has been put in the care of relatives. Ibarra was allegedly determined to leave the boy with a stranger because she no longer wanted him, according to the San Antonio Police Department. Jennifer continued: “It’s upsetting to know that even with all the resources that we have out there that someone would do this.” Texas’s Safe Haven Law allows parents to anonymously surrender newborns at designated locations without legal repercussions, raising the question of why Ibarra did not utilise this option. She was charged with abandoning and endangering a child with intent to return, according to Bexar County Court. Her bail was set at £5,233. It comes as a mum, 24, was arrested after her newborn baby was found dead in a bin. A horrified neighbour discovered the little boy was discovered naked inside a rubbish bag in an apartment block trash compartment in Australia last month. But a suspect was recently arrested following a three-week search. It is believed the baby was placed into a plastic garbage bag. In August another mother discarded her baby in a bin after she unexpectedly gave birth. Horror CCTV footage shows the 25-year-old carrying a black bag – containing the body of her daughter and placenta – and dumping it. The incident happened at an estate in Várzea Grande, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, in the early hours of July 23.
