The storm was moving northwards and was expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining northwest Odisha by Thursday evening. A satellite image shows Cyclone Arnab moving inland. (Photo: IMD) A low-pressure area is a region where atmospheric pressure is relatively low, encouraging air to converge and rise, potentially producing clouds and rainfall. The IMD has also identified a separate low-pressure area over the south Andaman Sea and neighbouring regions, which is expected to move west-northwestwards and could develop into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas in the following days. These weather systems are expected to keep rainfall activity going across parts of eastern and southern India into the first week of November, even as conditions gradually change across other regions.- Ends
