Multiple shot outside dorms at Virginia State University with campus on lockdown as cops hunt several suspects

MULTIPLE people have been shot at Virginia State University with officials hunting several suspects. The Petersburg campus in Chesterfield County, 20 miles south of Richmond, has been locked down and numerous people taken to nearby hospitals, the authorities have said. Chesterfield police officers arrived to the scene where they found five people wounded outside their dorms. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! They were taken to nearby emergency rooms where one is now said to be in a critical condition after suffering life-threatening injuries. The four other victims who sustained gunshot wounds are expected to survive, police said. “Virginia State University remains on lockdown following a shooting involving multiple suspects near the Quad Annexes,” the University said in a statement at 6am. “Multiple people were shot. At this time, none of the injuries appear to be life threatening. “VSU Police and the Chesterfield County Police Department are actively investigating. “The campus community should continue to avoid the area and follow all law enforcement instructions.” Most read in The Sun Anyone with any information is urged to contact either police department. No further information regarding the shooting or the suspects has been released, but further updates are expected. VSU is a historically Black university founded in 1882, and students are due to flood back to the school this weekend with classes beginning again on Monday. On Friday, a special pinning ceremony was held at the campus which was attended by almost 1,500 new students.
