‘Multiple people injured’ after suspect armed with sword storms school in Sweden sparking lockdown

SEVERAL people have been injured after a sword-wielding suspect stormed a school in Sweden, police said. Eight nearby schools are now on lockdown after cops swarmed the scene in Fagersta, an industrial town around 100 miles west of Stockholm. Helicopters were seen flying overhead as armed personnel and ambulances descended on the school. Parents have been desperately trying to get a hold of their children, with “lots of tears and worry” at the scene, SVT reported. Police said: “A call was received regarding a case of ongoing deadly violence at a school in Fagersta. “Police have responded to the scene and one person has been taken into custody. “[We] are continuing to work at the scene with a number of different resources. “The public is urged to respect the roadblocks and listen to police instructions.” Most read in The Sun Officials have now gathered in Fagersta to hash out a crisis support plan. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on X: “We do not yet know what is behind the act, but we know that the police are working very intensively. “I would like to ask everyone to allow the police and emergency services to work undisturbed. Our thoughts are with all those affected.” Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer told Aftonbladet: “We have been informed of a serious incident in Fagersta. “The police are on site and are working very intensively on the incident. “The government is in close contact with the police and is continuously monitoring developments.” Magdalena Andersson, Sweden‘s Leader of the Opposition, wrote on X: “Terrible information from Fagersta. My thoughts go out to those affected and everyone affected. “When violence takes place at a school, I know it affects everyone in our country. “All of Sweden stands with Fagersta in this difficult time.” Green Party spokesperson Daniel Helldén said on X: “What happened in Fagersta is terribly tragic. “When students and school staff are exposed to violence, it affects us all.” Sweden has seen some high-profile attacks at educational institutions. In February 2025, a 35-year-old man killed 10 people at an adult education centre in Orebro – Sweden’s worst mass shooting. Police said it was motivated by the killer’s wish to end his life because of financial and psychological woes. In March 2022, an 18-year-old student fatally stabbed two teachers at a secondary school in the southern city of Malmo. Comment now
