EXCLUSIVE: Now that American Horror Story season 13 is over, Paul Anthony Kelly is reacting to his character's fate and all the twists and turns revealed along the way. The long-running horror series celebrated its 13th season in the biggest way possible: by bringing back several characters from the past, including Sarah Paulson's Cordelia Goode and Jessica Lange's Constance Langdon, for an Avengers-like team-up. One of the new characters was Mr. Taylor Dorium Nas (Fedor Steer), who was being looked after by Constance. Kelly joined the franchise this year as a younger version of Mr. Nas, who turned out to be Satan. His son, Ben DeSoto, sacrificed himself in order to take out Nas. The caretaker complied with Cordelia and Mallory's request, which led to Nas being imprisoned inside The Last Supper. In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley, Kelly admitted that his character being trapped in that exact manner felt like a "full circle" moment because he was "imprisoned as Judas, the 13th guest at The Last Supper. That's kind of how we envision Satan as humans already." Being able to work with acclaimed actors like Sarah Paulson and the other cast members who played the other members of the coven was a great experience, according to Kelly, who admitted he tried not to think about it too much since they're all "legends." Paulson is already a friend of Kelly's, so "it was fun to go to work with a friend" and be able to "live in this fantastical world and just have fun playing." Paul Anthony Kelly: "I really just tried to not think about that, that they're legends. We're all just there to work. Sarah's a friend, so it was fun to go to work with a friend. Yeah, it was really great. I had a really wonderful time doing it. It's so fun. It's not reality at all. It's great to live in this fantastical world and just have fun playing. I'm very fortunate. It all just happens organically. You're in it, it's written, you're playing it. Certainly, the culminating scene in Mr. Nas's final scene where he is trapped in The Last Supper, it feels really full circle. It's kind of funny that he is then imprisoned as Judas, the 13th guest at The Last Supper. That's kind of how we envision Satan as humans already. It felt really full circle, but there's a lot of energy that goes into it." While in that fantastical world, Kelly's character Nas experienced a major evolution as American Horror Story: 13 unfolded. Interestingly, the entire arc of the season hadn't been completely written yet when they started filming. "A lot of it changes as we were going along," he said. "I think we maybe had an idea, or it was alluded to us how it would end." Nas made a bet with God that if he "could retain human form for a hundred years, then he gets it all." Those plans eventually changed, and Nas realized he didn't need to go down that path since "he's middle management and has this responsibility of looking after humanity." It was also revealed that Constance and Fiona Goode were Satan and Sister Jude's daughters, and Ben was his son, creating all sorts of "twists and turns." Paul Anthony Kelly: "A lot of it wasn't fully written while we were filming it. A lot of it changes as we were going along. I think we maybe had an idea, or it was alluded to us how it would end. At the end of the day, I think my character, Mr. Nas, sets out the whole premise: he makes his bet with God that if he can retain human form for a hundred years, then he gets it all. But then along the way, he decides that that's not really right for him because then he's middle management and has this responsibility of looking after humanity. And I personally wouldn't want that job either. And there's also the family aspect of it as well, whereas Constance is his daughter and Sarah's character is his granddaughter and Ben is his son and the Antichrist. There's a lot of twists and turns in it. There was a lot of discovering more about him as it went on, too." Whether Kelly returns for a future season remains to be seen. FX just renewed American Horror Story for season 14, so casting decisions are unlikely to be determined anytime soon. Kelly is "hoping" that he gets to come back, adding, "That'd be great. I love to be in the Murphy-verse, as it were." He would love to be a protagonist, but he did find himself liking the antagonist role this year. Paul Anthony Kelly [when asked if he knows whether he's returning to AHS]: "Not yet, but I'm hoping for it. That'd be great. I loved to be in the Murphy verse, as it were. I'm very, very fortunate." ScreenRant: Maybe this time we get you as a protagonist. Paul Anthony Kelly: "Yeah, that would be lovely. Although I do like the antagonists." Before being cast as Nas on American Horror Story, Kelly landed his very first acting role in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, another Ryan Murphy-produced series. He played John F. Kennedy Jr. opposite Sarah Pidgeon's Carolyn Bessette. He can next be seen in The Housemaid's Secret, the sequel to the hit Paul Feig-directed thriller The Housemaid, which arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027. After how massive the crossovers were in American Horror Story: 13, Murphy has indicated he won't revisit it again. Season 14 will likely be an original story with all-new characters. There's always a chance that actors who have worked with Murphy before will return, as he is wont to do, so Kelly definitely has a chance of playing in the American Horror Story sandbox again. Only time will tell whether that happens and if any future characters he plays can live up to Nas' creepy and sinister ways.
