And while it remains to be seen if it will be a true winner, we already have other brands teasing something similar of their own. Motorola took to its socials to show off a small glimpse of what it's cooking up. It appears to be a silhouette of a wide foldable phone, similar to the iPhone Duo and Samsung's Z Fold 8. Naturally, we really won't know until the phone is announced, but it's good to see the brand working on something interesting. Wide foldables are going to take over Wide foldables were already a thing, but for some reason, they never really caught on and brands chose to pursue taller designs instead. For some years now, we've heard rumors that Apple's iPhone Duo would feature a wider design, and it didn't take long for brands to launch their own iterations. In the US, Samsung made a bold choice to attack on two fronts, with one wide and one tall foldable phone. The Z Fold 8 looks like the more popular option of the two. Plus, you can get it for much cheaper than the Z Fold 8 Ultra. Motorola is one of the next brands to debut a wide foldable phone, but hopefully it will do it sooner rather than later. Despite offering flip-foldable phones for quite some time, it was late to release its own tablet foldable phone. It debuted in January 2026, and didn't go on sale until May 2026. That's a long time from announcement to retail release. Motorola's wide foldable phone could be exciting. But a late release could also miss the mark. In the trailer, you see the phone toward the end of the clip, appearing at the five-second mark. The brand offers a small tease with the slogan "Just wait for our next move." We don't really get a great look at the hardware, but it looks quite similar to other devices out on the market right now. Most foldable phones deliver on most fronts when it comes to the hardware. However, it's the cameras that are really lacking in all these models. Even Apple couldn't pull off anything special, offering a dual-camera setup without the dedicated telephoto found in its Pro models.
Motorola is joining the wide foldable race, but it might already be too late
