Mortal Kombat 13 Teaser Has Fans Seriously Excited

Mortal Kombat 1 was obviously the most recent effort, and the last couple of years have been dominated by additional releases of that. That said, Mortal Kombat King Ed Boon has explicitly stated that they are working on other projects tied to the franchise, including what will presumably end up being something of a sequel. Now, we have a new teaser that suggests additional news could be on the way, and it will likely come as a major relief for fans of the franchise. Over on Reddit, one user shared a post featuring a quote from the director of the Mortal Kombat movie adaptation Simon McQuoid, in which he teased a little about NetherRealm and Ed Boon's plans for the next game: "I love what Ed and the team did with Mortal Kombat 1. I know that's kind of the most recent, but the different games have different things that are good. I just love that they got to this point and they've sort of reshuffled the deck, and I think that proves to everyone that... I just like the way the story was told and also the way it played out. I certainly know from the little bits that Ed's told me about what's coming up. It's very exciting what they've got. I can't divulge anything—that would be wrong of me—but pretty exciting what they're cooking up. I think the next thing they do, it's going to be great. So, I'm really looking forward to that." The interesting part there is that the story was easily the most divisive part of the last game, with the multiversal elements really failing to strike the right chord with longtime fans. That said, McQuoid is very positive on it, which likely means that his excitement comes from the next game being a direct continuation, rather than a sudden and stark departure. Whatever does happen next with the Mortal Kombat franchise as a whole, it does feel like it needs a bit of a refresh to restore some of the excitement that has been lost over the years. What exactly that would look like isn't entirely clear, but there are millions of fans waiting in the wings who would be happy to try something considerably more radical than the last effort.
