Morrisons confirms closure of popular high street branch this weekend with ‘100 more stores’ still to shut

The Stokesley High Street branch is one of the first seven Morrisons Daily stores confirmed for closure, with 99 more convenience locations expected to follow. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! It comes after the retailer rescued McColl’s from administration, resulting in over 100 branch closures. Morrisons said the closures form “part of a wider strategy to improve the overall performance of the retailer’s convenience store network”. The shop has traded as a McColl’s for decades before it was converted into a Morrisons Daily following the 2022 acquistion. It comes after the retailer closed the first of the 100 locations last weekend. The Buckinghamshire-based store pulled the shutters on Sunday, July 12, with the on-site Post Office also ceasing operations. Morrisons previously said it is consulting with affected staff and planning to redeploy employees where possible. Most read in Money “We will also work hard to mitigate the impact on customers, continuing to serve them through other nearby stores and online,” the supermarket said. Morrisons added that the “closure of loss-making stores” will enable the brand to concentrate on stores “which work best for customers, improving the quality of our Convenience estate and making it stronger overall”.
