Morgan Rogers ignores Cole Palmer’s ‘bailiffs threat’ with Chelsea celebration – but pal has brilliant response

MORGAN ROGERS showed he wouldn’t be intimidated by his £117m transfer fee – or his team-mate’s warning – as he scored 41 minutes into his Chelsea debut. The England star, who joined from Aston Villa, then performed the iconic ‘ice-cold’ celebration, shared by himself and Cole Palmer. Chelsea ace Palmer has made the celebration his own over the years. However, it was actually Rogers who performed it first. The pair played together in the Man City academy but Rogers aired the celebration when he scored for Middlesbrough against West Brom on December 23, 2023. And a week later, Cole Palmer performed the celebration during a 3-2 Chelsea win at Luton as a nod to his former, and future, team-mate. But it was actually invented by Atlanta Hawks NBA star Trae Young back in 2018. Palmer got his chance to respond in the 48th minute however, as he gave Chelsea a 3-1 lead. Most read in Sport Captain Reece James also jokingly joined in with the ‘cold’ celebration as Palmer got even with pal Rogers. Chelsea took the lead away to West London rivals Fulham after just 31 seconds as Joao Pedro scored the fastest ever opening day goal. But a howler from Robert Sanchez saw the Cottagers equalise through Josh King on 23 minutes. Chelsea reestablished their lead on 41 minutes however, as a brilliant piece of work from fellow new signing Maxence Lacroix set up Rogers for a tap-in. Rogers was one of England’s top performers during his fleeting appearances under Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup. And that, following an excellent two seasons at Aston Villa, convinced Chelsea to splash out the huge nine-figure fee on the winger. Comment now
