More scheduling chaos as Coronation Street and Emmerdale to be taken off air again | Freelance Soaps Reporter Published August 7, 2026 8:53am Updated August 7, 2026 10:03am More chaos! (Picture: ITV) For ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale, there’s been almost as much chaos off screen as there has been on this summer, with the World Cup causing schedule chaos left, right and centre. Double episodes, missing episodes, episodes on Sundays – it’s been a bumpy ride for those looking to get their daily dose of soapy goodness, but luckily, we’ve had your back with frequent schedule updates. While we’d all presumed that with the World Cup finally over, things would settle back into the usual pattern, the football affliction isn’t quite over yet, with the English Football League Cup due to cause further disruption to the schedules – though, thankfully, not to the extent of July’s tournament. There’ll be no episodes tonight – Friday, August 7 – of either Coronation Street or Emmerdale, as they’ve both been bumped from the channel line-up to make way for EFL Cup coverage, with Middlesbrough vs Wrexham taking their place. But fear not, the missing episodes will air on Sunday, August 9 instead. Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. Unfortunately, tonight isn’t the only alteration; next week on Wednesday, August 12, there’ll be no Coronation Street or Emmerdale, as Manchester United go against Leeds United in a pre-season friendly match. As we approach September, things will likely settle in the absence of a massive football tournament that messes with our daily visits to Weatherfield and the Yorkshire Dales…well, until Christmas, anyway, when things will go haywire all over again! For now, if you’re wondering what to expect during Sunday’s episode, read on… What’s happening in Coronation Street on Sunday? Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) remains conflicted between her loyalty to her restaurant, Speed Daal and the demands of her legal career, as a viper hiding in plain sight sets his heart on relieving her of the former. After clashing with Ollie Driscoll (Raphael Akuwudike) and an incident between her waiter, Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) and Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) swoops in and reminds Alya that his offer to take Speed Daal off her hands is still on the table, leaving her considering making her life easier by offloading. Is Alya ready to let the restaurant go? (Picture: Danielle Baguley/ITV) Over at the Metcalfe residence, Tim and Sally Metcalfe (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) find themselves with an unwanted lodger, when Tim’s cousin Richie (Nathan Sussex) returns after their boozy night, having been thrown out by his wife. Despite what vile rapist Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) might think, she hasn’t truly broken Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). Sunday sees her summon all of her courage to confront the woman who tried to annihilate every aspect of her life as the two women go head to head in a battle of wills. As she demands a full confession, Charity doesn’t crumble under Todd’s threats to reveal all about baby Leyla’s true parentage, and as Charity finally brands Todd as a rapist, she’s unaware that somebody has quietly entered the cottage and overheard everything. Charity reclaims her power and brands Todd a rapist (Picture: Mark Bruce/ITV) Elsewhere, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) convinces Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) that they should run away as a family and escape Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) after she laments being trapped by her pregnancy and blames herself for the violent assault he supposedly subjected Billy to.
