Monty Don offers rare look at marriage with wife Sarah as they mark major milestone

Monty Don has marked a major personal milestone by sharing a rare glimpse into his decades-long marriage with wife Sarah.The beloved Gardeners' World presenter took to Instagram to celebrate 43 years of marriage, posting a nostalgic photograph from their wedding day alongside the simple caption: “43 years ago today.”The throwback image showed the couple beaming as they posed together after tying the knot. After several years together, the couple, who welcomed three children; Adam, Freya and Tom, together, married on July 29, 1983, and have since built a life together away from the spotlight.While Monty has become one of Britain's best-known television gardeners, he has often been keen to stress that the famous gardens at their Herefordshire home, Longmeadow, are as much Sarah's creation as his.Speaking on the Gardeners' World podcast in 2022, the broadcaster revealed the couple make every major decision about the property together, explaining that compromise has been one of the secrets to both their marriage and their garden.“Sarah has always been an entirely supportive partner in crime,” he said. “One of the things I always say privately and I should say publicly at every opportunity, it's her garden as much as mine. This is not my garden, it's our garden. It's 'we' always.”He continued: “Every significant decision, and quite a few insignificant ones, are made by the pair of us in agreement and we have this principle that both of us have a veto over everything.“It's a very good way to run a system because what it means is, if you disagree, and we do a lot, you can't do it and say, ‘Live with it.’”Read MoreThe gardening expert admitted the approach can require patience, with some decisions taking years before either of them is ready to move forward.“You might have terrible rows, you might have a lot of persuading, it might mean negotiation.
