Monsoon to get another boost: Rain to drench MP, Gujarat on Thursday

A fresh round of widespread monsoon rain is expected to continue across large parts of the country on Thursday, July 30, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over several states as a Deep Depression moves westwards across central India.The weather system, which lay over central Chhattisgarh on Tuesday morning, is expected to move further across Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh over the next 24 hours.The Deep Depression's interaction with the active monsoon trough is likely to keep rain activity intense over central, western and parts of north India. (Photo: IMD) WHERE WILL IT RAIN?According to the IMD's forecast for July 30, West Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated places expected to witness extremely heavy downpours, making it the country's primary rain hotspot for the day. (Photo: PTI) The list of places expected to be drenched includes East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Maharashtra, coastal and interior parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, East Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. (Photo: PTI) THUNDERSTORMS AND STRONG WINDS TO ARRIVEApart from heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely over parts of Maharashtra, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Interior Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and West Madhya Pradesh.Several eastern and northern states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan and Gangetic West Bengal, may also witness thunderstorms with winds reaching 30-40 kmph.
