Heavy rain is likely in several parts of India on Saturday, September 12, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several states.According to the IMD forecast, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places across numerous states and regions, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and parts of the Northeast.The weather system driving much of this activity is a low-pressure area over the northwest and westcentral Bay of Bengal, near the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts. HEAVY RAIN IN SEVERAL STATESOn September 12, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Telangana and Uttarakhand.As per IMD, “isolated” rainfall means rain is expected over 1-25% of the stations in the affected area. (Photo: IMD) The wider forecast shows fairly widespread to widespread rain continuing over several regions.Odisha is likely to receive fairly widespread rain on Saturday while widespread rain is forecast over Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.THUNDERSTORMS AND GUSTY WINDS TO ARRIVE TOOThunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in several areas.Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Vidarbha may experience winds of 40-50 kmph during thunderstorms. (Photo: PTI) Winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, East Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal and Sikkim.Coastal Andhra Pradesh could see a thundersquall, with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph.
