The cell had previously been occupied by his later father, according to the information under the investigation. Abbot Leontios, accompanied by members of the Church committee and a maintenance worker, is understood to have gone to the monk’s cell and demanded the key at the Agios Neophytos Monastery in Paphos. The religious figure is said to have refused to leave before suddenly grabbing a paper cutter from a desk inside the room. Police believe he then launched a ferocious attack. Investigators believe the abbot, who had authority to order the monk’s removal, was the intended target. But a 53-year-old monastery employee was allegedly struck by the sharp object, suffering gruesome injuries to his neck and hand.
