Johnpaul Allen was only spotted speeding after he unknowingly zoomed past an unmarked police car on the A60 between Worksop and Cuckney, Nottinghamshire, on May 25. A high-speed chase then ensued, with officers in the car forced to travel as quickly as 120mph to keep up with 'reckless' Allen. The 32-year-old eventually slowed down ahead of speed cameras near Cuckney, in Mansfield, but was later clocked driving at 70mph through a 30mph zone in Warsop. Dashcam footage showed Allen weaving in and out of traffic before, at one point, narrowly avoiding a collision with an oncoming vehicle as he careered onto the wrong side of the road.He was eventually brought to a halt by the officers and asked to leave the Range Rover Sport on the roadside shortly after 9.30pm that night. Bodycam footage shows the driver – with no shirt and a pair of Adidas sliders on – admitting to having 'one or two' alcoholic drinks before getting behind the wheel. Allen, from Mansfield Woodhouse, admitted to a charge of dangerous driving at Nottingham Crown Court last week. PC Ky Kirk, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: 'Allen clearly had no idea he was overtaking an unmarked police vehicle when he carried out the first dangerous manoeuvre and almost collided with an oncoming car.'We then had to travel at speeds well in excess of 100mph to keep up with him as he drove recklessly along a major A-road through the county.'After slowing for a while he then drove well over twice the speed limit of 30mph through a built-up area of Warsop.'He put countless drivers, pedestrians and other road users at risk that evening, not to mention the child who was alongside him in the Land Rover.'I'm pleased the judge has sentenced him to a spell behind bars and hope he reflects on the quality of his driving.'
