Moment pavement explodes just feet from shoppers... before flames start leaping from hole

The street was closed as emergency services worked to establish the cause of the fire.The blaze had started in an underground electrical installation, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said.The blaze had extinguished itself by the time firefighters arrived. A pair of pedstrians were just feet away from the explosion underneath the pavement Flames soon erupted from underneath the street from the hole left by the explosionA fault in an underground cable was said to be the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire.It also left dozens of surrounding properties without power for nearly nine hours. A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson told The Sun: 'At 1pm on Thursday 20 August, a fault on our underground electricity network caused a power cut affecting 68 properties in Boston.'Supplies were isolated while the situation was made safe, and power was restored to all customers by 8.59pm.'There was a small fire as a result of the underground cable fault.'The situation was promptly made safe by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service and our engineers.'We'd like to thank Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service for its swift response to the incident.'
