A CAFE owner has been hailed a hero after plunging into the rough sea fully clothed to save three children. The chef rescued screaming kids from choppy waves off the Kent Coast on Wednesday. He ran outside and saw two boys and a girl struggling in the sea. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Steven immediately grabbed a buoyancy ring and waded into the water fully clothed, before bringing the children back to safety one by one. The footage shows the hero dragging the kids through the choppy water into the shore. Local resident Jo Drake, who witnessed the rescue outside the café, said Steven had been cooking when the incident unfolded. She said: “I walked past his kitchen and saw him cooking then as I walked on it became apparent these children were in trouble. “He didn’t hesitate when he heard the screaming. He just waded in fully clothed and rescued the children. “He’s a hero.” Most read in The Sun Fellow witness Andy Milnes also saw the incident and praised Steven for his quick response. He said: “I saw the whole incident. Steve was there immediately and assisted all three kids ashore.” Steven, who is also a retired firefighter, was praised by other locals following the dramatic rescue.
