Moment dine and dasher with woman & kids flee restaurant after racking up £250 bill & – as he’s ordered to pay £2k

THIS is the moment a dine and dasher rushes out of a restaurant with a woman and two kids – leaving behind a £250 bill. Johnny Delaney was caught on CCTV leaving Stubbs, a steak and seafood eatery in Ashford, Kent, last November, without paying a penny. Following the theft, Kent Police launched a full investigation and, thanks to an anonymous tip-off, were able to track down Delaney. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Delaney initially claimed they had walked out without paying as the food had been cold and they had found a hair. However the restaurant contended this, stating there were no complaints from the diners and they finished all of the food. Delaney was later charged for his actions and forced to pay nearly eight times the original bill. He initially pleaded not guilty at Canterbury Crown Court earlier this year, but in August changed his plea to guilty. He was then sentenced to a 12-month community order, and a combined bill of £1,996.82. Delaney was also ordered to adhere to a daily curfew from 6pm to 3am until October. Most read in The Sun Stubbs’ senior general manager, Sally Newman, said: “As we approach the end of our first five years of opening Stubbs, this successful conviction marks a significant milestone for our team. “This kind of theft places an immense emotional and operational strain on me and my hardworking colleagues. “We hope this sends a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated in our town.” In the restaurant’s first year of operation, bosses say it suffered up to two incidents a week involving people deliberately leaving without paying. It follows a similar dine-and-dash in July, which saw a family of nine shamelessly abandon their bill at a Turkish restaurant in Hertfordshire. Five adults and four children racked up a bill of £160 between them before they fled one by one, leaving the last person at the table to quietly slip away.
