Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team Sergeant James Shirley said: “Our officers worked as a team to quickly and professionally bring this pursuit to a safe conclusion and to prevent any harm coming to members of the public. “The manner in which this vehicle was being driven posed a clear and immediate risk to the public, and the consequences could have been far more serious. “Thankfully on this occasion no one was injured, but next time this could have been a different story. “When someone chooses to drive recklessly, especially at high speeds and without the legal requirements of a licence or insurance, they endanger not only themselves but every pedestrian and road user around them. “Dangerous drivers are not welcome on South Yorkshire’s roads, and while you can’t be responsible for everyone else’s actions, you can your own. “Don’t put yourself, other road users and pedestrians in danger with your own reckless actions. “Take responsibility and do you part to keep our roads safe as the implications could be life-changing.” A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “A speeding vehicle being driven dangerously through the streets of Doncaster by a suspected underage driver was safely stopped after being pursued by officers from our Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team (MARCT). “Earlier this month, officers from MARCT and our Roads Policing Group were carrying out an operation to combat vehicle-enabled crime when they were alerted to a Land Rover Discovery being driven erratically in the Adwick area, with its occupants seen wearing balaclavas. “After it refused to stop for our MARCT officers, they engaged in a pursuit. “With the vehicle continuing to pose a significant risk to the public, officers in a car made tactical contact to safely bring the Land Rover to a stop. “Tactical contact is only used when deemed necessary to prevent serious harm, and in this case it allowed officers to end the pursuit in a controlled manner. “A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without insurance or a licence. “He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon after a bladed article was found in the boot of the Land Rover during a thorough search of the vehicle.”
