Mohammad Amir has confirmed that his Pakistan cricket chapter is closed after becoming a British citizen and gaining local-player status in England. He made the comments during an interview with cricket journalist and YouTuber Muhammad Furqan Bhatti, explaining why a return to Pakistan cricket is no longer possible under his current classification.“I am a British local now. When you play in competitions such as the County Championship and The Hundred as a local player, you have to sign a document stating that you cannot play for another country as a local. So, the Pakistan chapter I had before is now closed,” Amir said.The left-arm pacer obtained British citizenship through his marriage to Narjis Khan, who is a British citizen. Amir has lived in the UK for several years and has been involved in English domestic and franchise cricket during his post-international career. His status became particularly relevant after he represented Rawalpindi in the 2026 PSL. Amir has also been able to benefit from his British citizenship in English domestic cricket. Nottinghamshire signed him for the 2026 T20 Blast, with the seamer not occupying an overseas slot.
