Modi's Saptdhara: 7 sectors that could shape India's next jobs wave

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, laid out a seven-part growth vision that could also influence where India’s next jobs are created.Calling it ‘Shakti Ki Saptadhara’, or seven streams of India’s energy and strength, Modi said these sectors can help make India Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) and developed.Here are the seven areas to watch:1. He urged manufacturers to focus on cost, quality and scale to become more competitive globally.For jobs, the push could mean greater demand across factories, supply chains, engineering, design, quality control and skilled manufacturing.2. AGRICULTURE: FROM FARM TO GLOBAL MARKET Agriculture and food processing form the second stream. Modi said India must take its traditional foods, including millets, spices, fruits and vegetables, to global markets.That could expand opportunities beyond farming into food processing, packaging, logistics, exports and agritech.3. TECHNOLOGY: THE NEXT BIG JOBS FRONTIERTechnology and innovation are the third stream, with Modi pointing to data centres, robotics and emerging technologies. He said India must become a hub for these technologies and aim to take Made-in-India 6G across the world.4. GATI SHAKTI: JOBS ON THE MOVEThe fourth stream is connectivity and infrastructure. Modi called for seamless, high-speed connectivity, including expressways, high-speed rail and port-led development.Such expansion could create jobs across construction, logistics, engineering, transport and infrastructure services.5. DEFENCE: FROM BUYER TO GLOBAL SUPPLIERUnder Raksha Shakti, Modi pushed for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.He specifically highlighted drones and counter-drone technology, while calling for India to become a global defence equipment supplier.6. GREEN AND BLUE ECONOMYGreen hydrogen, renewable energy and energy storage form the sixth stream.The blue economy also offers opportunities in fisheries, coastal tourism and ocean technology, Modi said.7.
