MLB Just Found Its Space Jam In Brand-New Series Starring Major Active Superstars

Space Jam was a major cultural touchstone for the 1990s, but another beloved American pastime has surprisingly never had something similar, until now. With the film following the legendary NBA shooting guard's real-life reentry into the scene after briefly playing Minor League Baseball. But while the NBA has now had two Space Jam crossover stories to its name, a similar treatment has eluded another beloved American sports league, Major League Baseball. But instead of American cartoons, a collection of modern MLB icons get the manga treatment with VIZ Media's GalaXic Baseball League. With two chapters out and more on the way, GalaXic Baseball League lays out a Milky Way 1000 years into the future, where interstellar travel is possible and entire civilizations have emerged as far more dominant than that of Earth. And, with Earth's beloved sport of baseball reaching the cosmos, an entire proxy war has emerged as an entertaining way to settle galactic power through the GXBL. GalaXic Baseball League Drops Brand-New Trailer & Player List For Volume 1 Luna and Sol's bid to turn Gaia Force, Earth's failing baseball team, back into the GXBL powerhouse it used to be even a decade prior. To do so, they take on some big names from 2026, with an inter-team assembly of fantastic players gathered after going back in time, and basically abducting many of the MLB's top talent. Despite Gaia being woefully outmatched by other planets with outrageous raw alien strength, psychics, body-snatchers, and at least one Yeti, Luna decides to pull one more anime-style lever by giving each player special suits, drawing on their steely resolve to awaken massive physical potential. Robots are fully allowed to swing multiple bats at once. Monsters can conjure up massive catching arms to attempt to stop even the most explosive home runs. One team even happily overtakes the bodies of previous Glory title runners-up, falling just short of victory. GalaXic Baseball League is an original manga from VIZ Media, written and illustrated by Acky Bright in partnership with MLB Players, Inc. and OneTeam Partners, with guidance from former Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Hisashi Sasaki. With the MLB's recent history of anime collaborations, it's high time it got a manga of its own in the process.
