‘Misty Green’: Chris Rock Follows a Hollywood Actress Fighting for Her Second Act

Chris Rock is back behind the camera with his latest effort as a writer-director, the Hollywood-centric feature Misty Green. The A24 film, the trailer for which dropped today, follows an actress whose career has stalled years after her breakthrough role, as she fights for her second act. Rosalind Eleazar stars as Misty Green alongside Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace and Rock. The trailer kicks off with Misty being kicked out of her apartment by a woman who claims the place belongs to her husband. “I’m broke,” Misty says early on. “It’s not just me though; I’ve got my brother [played by Kaluuya].” She’s later shown meeting with Topher Grace’s exec who says of Misty’s prospects, “It’s tough out there. I don’t know if I can even get you on Law & Order now.” Misty seems to be following her own schedule and playbook, declaring, “I wake up when I want to wake up. I sleep when I want to sleep. I get high when I want to get high. I fuck when I want to fuck.” But it also seems as though she might have burned some bridges as Rock’s character recalls, “The last time I cast you, you punched this bitch in the face.” “She hit me first,” Misty insists. Grace later suggests she might be at least partly responsible for her situation, saying “You’re not exactly an unknown Misty. Is Hollywood racist, yep. Don’t act like you never had a shot.” Misty is also shown encountering Driver’s character who makes her an offer: “I’m looking for open-minded friends who might want to make a little extra cash.” And she’s seen auditioning, singing “One Night Only” and her brother going through tough times including what looks like a stint behind bars. Misty Green, based on an original script by Rock, is set to receive its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival ahead of an October theatrical release. Rock previously directed such features as Head of State (2003), I Think I Love My Wife (2007) and the well-received Top Five (2014). He has also recently starred in the movies Rustin, Amsterdam and Spiral: From the Book of Saw and on the FX series Fargo. In 2023, Rock released his live Netflix stand-up special Selective Outrage, in which he talked about having been slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars the year before.
