Missile attacks target three residential camps in northern Iraq

Photo: AFP Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Two security sources told Reuters that rocket attacks targeted three residential camps belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups east of Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan on Monday morning, with no casualties reported. Iraqi Kurdistan’s security agency, the Asayish, said that five rockets landed in different areas of the region around 3:10 a.m. local time, noting that no injuries were reported as a result of the attacks, according to Kurdistan 24. The blasts caused significant material damage and ignited nearby fires. The Asayish did not specify the type of rockets used or who launched them, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. Three missiles struck the Zirgwezala region, namely a residential camp for Komala Party families in Iranian Kurdistan. A missile fell in the village of Gurgachya in the Sirwan district, and another exploded in the Qaradagh area, igniting a fire that locals extinguished. An official from the Komala Party accused Iran of directing the strikes and condemned the attacks on civilian residential locations. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) often targets dissident organizations such as Komala and the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), which Tehran accuses of inciting regional turmoil.
