The fifth seed needed just over an hour to complete the victory and continue her strong run in New York.It was the first meeting between Andreeva and Lys, but there was little to separate the Russian from control of the contest. The 2026 French Open champion raced through the opening set, using aggressive forehands and sharp passing shots to move 3-0 ahead before closing it out without dropping a game.Lys responded at the beginning of the second set, holding serve and then breaking Andreeva to take a 2-0 lead. The fifth seed immediately stopped the momentum, winning the next two games and gradually reasserting her authority as the German struggled to find a consistent way through.Several games went deep in the second set as Lys created opportunities to fight back, but Andreeva remained composed when it mattered. She eventually pulled clear and converted her third match point to complete the straight-sets win. The 17th seed avenged her earlier defeat to Oliynykova in Strasbourg and produced another composed display on the Grand Slam stage.Eala set the tone by winning the opening four games and finishing the first set with 11 winners. Oliynykova made the second set more competitive, but Eala stayed aggressive from the baseline, securing the decisive break at 4-3 before closing out the match with a service winner.“My patience and the consistency of my focus - I think that was the key to winning the match today,” Eala said.The Filipino was backed by a passionate crowd at Louis Armstrong Stadium, with Philippine flags and signs in Tagalog filling the stands.
