Mir 2.29 Released With Additional Wayland Protocols

For those using Canonical's Mir compositor for building Wayland-based shells, Mir 2.29 is now available with various improvements and new Wayland protocol coverage. Mir 2.29 adds support for xdg-dialog-v1, the protocol that allows applications to tell the window manager when a particular window is a dialog box. This protocol is already found supported by the other major Wayland compositors. Mir 2.29 also now supports ext_foreign_toplevel_image_capture_source_manager_v1 as the protocol for letting clients create image capture sources for specific top-level application windows for screncasting and similar uses. The Mir 2.29 update also adds support for taking a screenshot of a single surface, its wl_region implementation now handles add and subtract, and there is now a touch emulator to map mouse clicks and drags to touch events. Some other changes include migrating the codebase to C++26, dropping EGLStream support, eliminating wl-drm support in favor of DMA-BUF usage, and dropping other deprecated APIs.
