A 12-year-old girl from Avanigadda in Krishna district, who gave birth to a baby at a private hospital at Repalle in Bapatla district a few days ago, has handed over the newborn to the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department officers.The girl along with her parents appeared before the Krishna district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Wednesday.CWC Member Chandragiri Radha Kumari said: “We enquired about the health condition of the mother and the child. Both are in good health.”Ms. Radha Kumari told The Hindu, “The minor girl expressed her willingness to surrender the baby to the government. Her parents supported her decision. The minor girl’s mother submitted the surrender deed (willingness letter in writing) to the CWC and handed over the baby boy.”The baby was handed over to the WD&CW officials for necessary care and protection. The CWC will also monitor the health and protection of the minor girl, the CWC member said.Avanigadda police had registered a case against a 57-year-old RMP doctor, who allegedly raped the minor girl. The police produced the accused in court, and remanded him to judicial custody.Police registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and took up an investigation, said Avanigadda Circle Inspector G.
