Minister Shibu Baby John issues directives for complaint-free operations of IRE and KMML

Shibu Baby John | Photo Credit: H.VIBHU Forest Minister Shibu Baby John has directed the public sector undertakings Indian Rare Earths Limited (IRE) and Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited (KMML) in Chavara to ensure their mineral sand mining operations are entirely complaint-free. Speaking at an official meeting convened in the presence of the District Collector, the Minister instructed that both PSUs must resolve pressing local challenges, including land disputes and coastal erosion, while carrying out their operations.​The Minister instructed IRE to expedite compassionate appointments without delay and to ensure the time-bound return of mined land to its original owners. To fast-track land acquisition for a new building at St. Gregorios LP School in Chavara which is funded through KMML’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme, a special meeting chaired by the District Collector will be convened soon. ​Additionally, KMML will provide financial assistance for the construction of a protective seawall by the Irrigation department along the shores near the Kattil Mekkathil Temple.KMML and the Harbour Engineering department have been directed to complete the dredging work at Neendakara Harbour immediately. The Minister also said that land will be allocated to the District Disaster Management Authority for installing a radar system.
