You can reach them at James.t@thegamer.com Over the weekend, Mojang announced the first new Minecraft dimension in over a decade. Dubbed the Sift, this dreamy pastel world launches sometime in 2027. But you can try it right now - and I'm not talking about Minecraft Dungeons 2. Mielon has painstakingly pored over trailers and in-game footage to recreate the Sift in the base game with a new mod that features 10 biomes, unique terrain generation, its own animated sky, independent weather, and a variety of mobs, including the Singer, Echo Golem, Blub, Sifter, and Dark Sniffer. 10 Biomes, New Mobs, And A New Tier Above Netherite: What The Sift Mod Adds With the mod installed, you can reach the Sift in a couple of ways. First, you can activate the dormant Ancient City portal by summoning a Singer with the Goat Horn. The portal can then be opened by playing note blocks in the correct sequence. There are also Sift Rifts connecting to the Overworld that remain open for five minutes and can transport players, mobs, vehicles, projectiles, and items back and forth. Once inside the Sift, there's a new rainbow liquid called "Ichor" that grants Regeneration 1 to any living entity that touches it. You can bottle it for the same effect and even pour it into cauldrons. Then there's the new "endgame material" Mielon has coined: Siftite. Siftite tools are 20% faster than Netherite, while weapons deal "slightly higher base damage" and equipment is fire resistant. Understandably, then, it's incredibly expensive. You first need Netherite equipment, a Siftite Ingot, and a Siftite Upgrade Smithing Template to make the tool, weapon, or armor of your choosing, so you'll be making a lot of trips between the Nether and Sift. Don't worry, you can find gold and diamond ore in the Sift. There's also a new enchanting material called Charoite, which can be used in place of Lapis Lazuli at an Enchanting Table. It adds 20 levels to the required XP, but also "increases every rolled enchantment that can normally exceed level 1 by one level." Lastly, there's the new wood family to play around with: Overgrown Willow. It comes complete with logs, planks, stairs, slabs, fences, gates, doors, trapdoors, pressure plates, buttons, shelves, signs, boats, foliage, saplings, and vines. It's an absurdly comprehensive recreation of the dimension, but, naturally, it won't be 1:1 with the real thing as we don't know exactly what Mojang has planned for the Sift or what its purpose will ultimately be. But as an early preview of what to expect, Mielon's mod offers a pretty good idea of what the dimension might look like. "This mod isn't an exact replica," they stressed. "It's my interpretation of this dimension based on what we've seen in the trailers." Mielon is still updating the mod as more details about the Sift emerge, but it's already passed 48,000 downloads at the time of writing. So, if one thing is clear, it's that the community is itching to try out this new dimension.
