Miley Cyrus Breaks Silence on Godmother Dolly Parton’s Passing

Miley Cyrus has released an emotional statement on the death of her beloved godmother Dolly Parton, who passed away this week at the age of 80.Miley and Dolly have been extremely close since Miley was a baby, to the point where the “Wrecking Ball” singer told W Magazine in 2024, “Dolly’s been like a mother to me.”In her statement, Miley wrote, “The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”She continued, “What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”She then concluded with, “I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family, and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus (who also released an emotional statement), toured with Dolly in the ’90s, and they got so close that Billy asked Dolly to be her godmother. “He said, ‘We’re having a girl, and you’ve got to be her godmother!’ And I said, ‘Well, I’d be honored,’” Dolly told The Howard Stern Show. “So actually, Miley and I took over from there. We just stayed very, very close through the years.”She also told the London Evening Standard, “Miley became my goddaughter; I was her fairy godmother. We really have a true bond; she is like a daughter to me.”<3 Thinking of Miley, and all of Dolly’s family and loved ones right now.
