Mikel Arteta ‘agrees new contract with Arsenal with huge pay rise’ that will take Gunners boss beyond decade at Emirates

MIKEL ARTETA has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, reports suggest. The Spaniard led the Gunners to the Premier League title last season for the first time since 2004. According to BBC Sport, the 44-year-old will see a “sharp” rise in his salary from his current £10million a year plus bonuses. Sign up for the Arsenal newsletter Thank you! It will also see him take him up to a 10th year at the Emirates, having joined the club as manager in December 2019. He appeared to confirm his future when speaking to the media in August, saying of his future: “They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. “I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.” Arteta, who had entered the final 12 months of his deal, was already the Premier League’s best paid manager, dwarfing his colleagues pay in the English top flight. However, with a new deal now signed off Arteta could fall in line with some of the most well-paid bosses in the world. He also won the FA Cup in his first season at the club, before they underwent a complete cultural and squad overhaul to finally compete for the league title and eventually win it after two second-place finishes. Arsenal had started the season in perfect form as well, winning their first four Prem games, their Champions League opener against Napoli and League Cup clash at Ipswich. However, Arteta saw his champions pecked by the Seagulls as they fell to a shock 3-0 defeat away at Brighton in their last game before the international break.
