Mike Vrabel: We were lucky to win on Sunday

Published October 19, 2026 07:03 AM Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel opened his postgame press conference on Sunday by saying that his team was “lucky to win” against the Jets. The Patriots took a 17-3 lead into halftime and wound up winning 26-19 to extend their winning streak to three games, but Vrabel expanded on his earlier comment to make it clear that he doesn’t think they had the right formula on the field. “We just didn’t play very well,” Vrabel said, via a transcript from the team. “We tried to beat ourselves, but we made enough plays in critical situations to help us get through here today.”A.J. Brown’s dropped passes were one obvious way the team hurt itself and they also lost a pair of fumbles, which moves them to 13 turnovers on the season. Vrabel focused on the latter issue during an appearance on WEEI on Monday morning. “We turn the ball over at a historic rate, and it’s ridiculous,” Vrabel said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “It’s an embarrassment.”If there’s a bright side to the turnovers, it is that Drake Maye has contributed none of them over the last two weeks after having nine in the first four weeks of the season. His stability has helped fuel the team’s winning streak and Vrabel will have to find a way to have it carry over to the rest of the team.
