The new Prime Video miniseries marks the fifth major adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 novel, following the eponymous high school teenager whose life of seclusion due to her religious and overprotective mother comes crumbling down when she discovers telekinetic abilities after her first period. Night of the Reaper's Summer H. Howell is leading the Carrie cast as the titular protagonist alongside various Flanagan veterans, including Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Ruth Codd, Katee Sackhoff and Matthew Lillard, among others. Ahead of the show's October 7 premiere, Prime Video held an advance screening for Flanagan's Carrie, and reactions are rolling out for the first two episodes of the miniseries. SlashFilm's Bill Bria was glowing in his reaction, saying that "any doubts I might've had vanished just a few minutes in": "Mike Flanagan is working his adaptation magic once again. Summer H. Mama's Geeky's Tessa Smith was similarly ecstatic in her reaction to the new Stephen King adaptation, as "all I can say is WOW!": "This is not at all what you are expecting. It is absolutely incredible, and I am DYING for the rest of the episodes. Summer H. Howell is PHENOMENAL. Such a relevant exploration of this story." While a little more divided than others, DiscussingFilm's Tyler "Lllewyn" Taing was still generally favorable regarding Carrie, but cautioned that it is a "big departure" for both King's novel and "Flanagan's reputation as the keymaster of King's stories": "It’s a true modernization focusing on teenage anxieties and the cycle of violence in our digital age. Flanagan is aware many people hold this story near and dear to their hearts but I find his motivation to peer at today’s issues through the lens of these characters really compelling even if these choices might be controversial. I’m definitely seated for the rest!" Developing... Release Date 2026 - 2026-00-00 Network Prime Video Showrunner Mike Flanagan Cast Summer H.
