Mike Flanagan Gives Glowing Review To AMC's Hit Horror Series Already Renewed For Season 4

Mike Flanagan, creator of Prime Video's upcoming Carrie remake, revealed what he thinks of AMC's hit horror series after its recent season 4 renewal. Flanagan has a long history of working on horror projects over the years, including Absentia, Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep on the big screen and The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher on the small screen. Now that The Vampire Lestat, the third season of The Interview with the Vampire, is over, Flanagan was asked what he thought of it. On his blog, he called the show "exceptional" and singled out "superb" cast members Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman and Delainey Hayles. He proclaimed Interview with the Vampire as "one of the best things on TV by a mile" and creator/showrunner Rolin Jones a "genius," adding that he "cannot wait" for season 4, titled Queen of the Damned. "I think it’s exceptional. Rolin Jones is a godd***ed genius. Sam Reid - OMG, Sam Reid…the cast is superb. Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, and that astonishing work from Delainey Hayles…it’s absolutely brilliant. One of the best things on TV by a mile. Cannot wait for Queen of the Damned." The Vampire Lestat ends with Armand reattaching Louis de Pointe du Lac's head after he and Daniel Malloy cut it off. The same thing happens with Lestat de Lioncourt's head, and he realizes the devastation and destruction that he caused, including Akasha's awakening. The series overall centers on Louis and Lestat's chaotic and toxic bond with each other, as Louis reveals his story to Daniel. The series debuted in 2022 after AMC made a deal with Rice to adapt her book for the screen. The Vampire Lestat just ended after earning rave reviews from critics (with a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes) and audiences (85%) alike. During its renewal announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, AMC revealed that the fourth season would be called The Queen of the Damned, named after the third installment in Rice's The Vampire Chronicles book series. After Jones served as the showrunner since the beginning, The Queen of the Damned will see Moscovitch take over as showrunner, though Jones will still be involved with the production as an executive producer. Being in the horror genre himself, Flanagan knows what goes into telling a quality horror story. His next series is a TV remake of Carrie, Stephen King's very first novel that was turned into movies in 1976, 2002 and 2013, and a sequel in 1999. Carrie premieres October 7 on Prime Video. As for a premiere date for The Queen of the Damned, the season 4 renewal was only just announced, so it will likely be a while before the show returns. Based on the two-year hiatus between past seasons, a 2028 premiere seems likely, and Mike Flanagan can't wait to tune in.
