Migrant worker killed in wild elephant attack in Idukki

A 28-year-old migrant worker from Madhya Pradesh was killed in a wild elephant attack near Santhanpara, under the Devikulam Forest Range in Idukki, on Thursday night. According to preliminary reports, the deceased has been identified as Kumar. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on the road between Ayyanpara and Kampani estate near Pethotty. Another worker who was with him managed to escape unhurt.​Munnar Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Abhay Yadav confirmed the fatality. Officials stated that a joint team of forest personnel and police rushed to the spot following the incident. ​This marks the third fatal wild elephant attack under the Devikulam Forest Range in four months -- On August 27, S. Ochappan, a 68-year-old farmer from Tamil Nadu, was killed at Thalakkulam near Pooppara and on June 8, Mari, a resident of Chinnakkanal was trampled to death.
