A MIGRANT has died trying to parachute into Ceuta days before another wave are reportedly plotting to storm the border on speedboats. The Spanish enclave was besieged by some 70,000 migrants last month, sparking mayhem on its streets. Police raced to the spot where he had been spotted plunging into the water in the hope of rescuing him alive but discovered him dead from a suspected drowning. Alicante-based tech company Golden Owl believes August 15 has been earmarked for the invasion. It discovered mafia-run social networks offering places on boat for around €14,000 (£12k). The company also warned that August 10 is being considered as an alternative plan after the original date was leaked. Golden Owl claims the new method will shift focus from swimming to the use of Zodiac boats. The inflatables are often used by drug runners because they are powered by engines and capable of travelling at high speed. The plan allegedly involves a “crowdfunding” offer stating: “Whoever has 15,000 dirhams (£12k) should come down to Fez. “I’ll sell my motorcycle, and we’ll pool the funds to buy a Zodiac and use it to enter Ceuta. That way, they won’t send us back.” Open recruitment on online forums is a deceptive tactic often used by criminal networks. Golden Owl has linked 25 Facebook groups to the social media campaign that allegedly led to thousands of people joining the rush to reach Ceuta last week. Spain’s Ministry of the Interior said it is prepared for a potential invasion. Terrorists previously deported to Morocco after arrests in Spain were part of the mass crossing, local outlet El Espanol reported. Authorities believe it is “very possible” the number of criminals with links to Islamic extremists could increase. The Moroccan border town of Fnideq, which hosts 85,000 inhabitants, is an ISIS breeding ground once home to a terrorist brute who posed with severed heads and gifted his bride a bomb belt. It is one of the primary recruitment hub for extremists in North Africa. Ceuta is still reeling from the “apocalyptic” scenes last week. Of the estimated 70,000 who breached the border, 48,000 were frogmarched back across the frontier by military personnel. But there are currently an estimated 5,000 migrants, including nearly 1,000 children, remaining in the Spanish territory trying to dodge the security sweep. Distressing pictures have shown dozens of North African youths sleeping on the pavement on makeshift beds made out of cardboard boxes. The children will most likely end up being transferred to the Spanish mainland to ease overcrowding in Ceuta. The city is already caring for some 850 children, but is planning to expand its facilities with two more centres as the number of youngsters is expected to rise over the coming days. Comment now
